Improper fuel testing procedures are the leading cause of misdiagnosis of these fuel injection systems. GM CPI to MFI (Multiport Flexible Injection) Conversion There’s an alternative to the troublesome CPI poppet style (spider injectors). These two flexible injector assemblies (2-38886 or 2-38887) replace the original problem units perfectly. While no modifications are required, the 6 cylinder unit requires a simple mounting bracket. Now, instead of replacing one or more spider injectors individually (2-18287), the entire assembly can be replaced, with a new improved unit, at a substantial savings. GM TSB# 00-06-04-003B cites problems with the original system resulting in rough idle after start-up, misfire and other drivability problems due to a deposit build-up on the CSFI poppet valve ball. These can be inspected, cleaned or replaced one at a time, however this is time consuming and expensive. GM recommends correcting this problem by replacing the entire unit with the MFI conversion injectors using 2-38886 for 6 cyl. and 2-38887 for 8 cyl. vehicles….
